Nothing substantial but I jotted down this...
This is America he reminds himself, forming the words silently with his tongue, tasting the syllables like foreign cuisine. It's sun-kissed fruit and sweet cream, overly saccharine with the promise of nausea. Delightful in the moment, but...
He shakes his head and studies the snow dusted mountains, fluffy marshmallows and golden glitter in the light of dawn. This glowing paradise is the homeland now. The land where dreams come true and children play in the street. He takes a step forward, clasping the hands with the the generations that follow.
Random, yes. Fits my mood though.

Right, so I have no idea why I'm updating this. I guess I just realized that November was a while ago. Anyway life consists of four things: dance, skating, physics and sleep. I never realized how much I loved dance until this year, so now I have to integrate it into my already busy schedule. In any case, I'm excited to be perfecting my dance, skating and physics skills this summer. I hope the sky is blue and the birds are singing in your corner of the world.
P.S. If you don't love Mikhail Baryshnikov, you should.

So I was sitting in the lab yesterday reading about Tony Blair's departure, etc. and I just got tears in my eyes. The man isn't perfect by any means, but he is one of the few who "have it" and I was sad to see him move on. Good bye, Mr. Blair.

Right, this is a list for me... but I suppose since I'm posting it *on the internet* anyone can read it. Yeah.
LP's:
Space Oddity (1969/1972) RCA The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972) RCA Aladdin Sane (1973) Orange Label RCA Pin Ups (1973) Orange Label RCA Diamond Dogs (1974) Orange Label RCA Young Americans (1975) RCA Station to Station (1976) Gold Label RCA Lodger (1979) RCA Scary Monsters (1980) RCA Let's Dance (1983) EMI America Tonight (1984) EMI America Never Let Me Down (1987) EMI America
ChangesOneBowie (1976) RCA ChangesTwoBowie (1981) RCA Golden Years (1983) RCA Love You Till Tuesday (1984) DECCA
Singles:
Let's Dance (1983) EMI America Modern Love (1983) EMI America Underground (1986) EMI America
Why in Heaven's name do I want 'Never Let Me Down'? Well, I was born that year...
Okay... for me again. My Top Ten Bowie Albums:
10. The Man Who Sold the World (1970) 9. Aladdin Sane (1973) 8. Let's Dance (1983) 7. Heathen (2002) 6. Young Americans (1975) 5. Low (1977) 4. Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972) 3. Reality (2003) 2. Diamond Dogs (1974) 1. Station to Station (1976)
Just my opinion. Notice the distinct lack of '90's Bowie. I can appreciate the Outside era, but I do not particularly like to listen to it. "hours..." probably deserves an honorable mention though.

So, I was reading over some old writing and decided I needed to put down more verbal garbage. What followed may be the single strangest work of fiction/drabble? I have produced to date. Quite frankly, it's heavily influenced in imagery by the film "The Man Who Fell to Earth," but not at all in subject matter. The subject matter is actually something that's been perturbing me a bit lately. That said, this is not for the faint of heart. Be warned.

I realize I never write in this thing. Whatever... I'm very busy. Anyway, I'm going to do something amazingly new in May. I'm going to New York for the Highline festival and David Bowie concert. I realized this was possible about a month ago and now I've committed myself to go. For someone who hasn't been to a single live rock concert outside of Harry and the Potters at the library, I imagine this will be an eye opening experience. Now, I just have to find someone to come with me since I really don't see going alone as a smart idea. Of course, I love Bowie enough to go alone, NYC mob be damned.
Note: 2007 will be awesome and Jeremy Abbott rocks my socks. Or skates... or whatever. He's sweet, cute and damn good.

This is really just for my own conscience:
|
|
|
|
I stare at a half empty room with piles of hangers and bedding on an unclothed bed. It really the 20th of May the voices in my head chant. I ignore them. I am in denial. I must be... yet everything is moving forward with such breakneck speed that I just want to pull the emergency stop lever, but it doesn't exist. It's all real. My skates are broken in two. One part making its way to Red Wing, the other packed under old papers and clothes. I suppose that's me too. I know this is all happening, but I don't quite believe it. I'm not even sure I'll remember all of it when asked to recount the tale. In any case, this is the last entry from the beautiful city of Poughkeepsie. On to better things, to a long summer of work, skating and staring into space. Another year gone past. Oh well... it's been fun. :)

I was tagged and so yeah...
Ground Rules: The first player of this "game" starts with the topic "6 weird habits of yours" and people who get tagged need to write an LJ entry about their 6 quirky habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list their names.
1.) The paper journal that I keep is written backwards. This means the last page was written when I was fifteen and now I'm somewhere in the middle at age eighteen. Kind of strange, you have to admit.
2.) I'm obsessed with Victorian sexual practices. When in the library at Vassar I sit in the sex history section and read essays on Victorian sexuality to take a break from other work. Whenever someone comes looking for a book, I ignore them, but make sure to check which sex tome they have taken away.
3.) I must always lace up my left skate before my right, but never my left shoe before my right. This strikes me as very strange since the process is rather similar.
4.) I love tea. I am obsessed with tea. I have five different varieties of Chai sitting on my desk as well as various dessert teas, herbal brews, Earl Grey, white tea and probably something I can't see from this vantage point. All the boxes surround my Valentine's Day/Christmas tree. Don't ask... you really have to see it.
5.) I find myself fascinated by Oscar Wilde. I have read a strange smattering of his writing including the basic plays, but also many of his random letters and essays. I enjoy the latter almost more than the former. Also any time Wilde and Shakespeare are mentioned in the same breath I become extremely happy.
6.) Johnny Weir. Does he count as a weird habit? He must. I know nearly everything there is to know about the guy up until the point where it becomes creepy and stalkerish to know things. I know he's a normal guy, so I give him the space... but I consider myself a Weir addict.
I hereby tag (in the I won't be offended if you don't do it type of way): -cheshirecat7318 -equimagine (You probably know my habits better than I do) -superspiff -jacosh_neko -jainanicole -jiggy6454

There is life in the universe. I haven't written in months. Terrible, I know. Anyway, I have nothing to say except that I'm in love with Shakespeare (what's new?) and that sodomy and the sublime should always be partnered together. Now I'm losing you... I can feel the tendrils of your attention slipping through my fingers. Sandy grains upon the hologram. Now you see it, now you don't. Mr. W.H. What a journey it has been. I find myself convinced that fate must exist. Either that or I have a really good sense of timing. Maybe both. Worship the wisdom of Riedell, but don't go off on some crazy whim without research. I need research. How is an axel even possible with four wheels? I mean, risking all is good in a hypothetical situation involving a toaster, but up close... I usually pass. Is the hour of my acceptance dawning? Will I learn that life is skating? Fine blades upon a glassy mirror, dancing feet and frigid fingers. The holes just happen. After six months you really can't help it... maybe new gloves are in order? Cool control, confidence and concentration. Why hast thou deserted me in the hour upon the third strike after noon? Life is a freethrow, don't you remember the line? The basket is waiting. The ego won today. It usually beats the humility side of the brain to a pulp, but I can't say that I regret the result. After all, excellence is a habit not a lotto ticket. Listen to the waves. I know they do something more than Bach. Would the plants grow better listening to the waves? Ah, colors, psychology, magnetics, physics of a freethrow, measuring the electromagnetic pulse of the Earth. All things of past white boards and incompetent speeches. Tell me more about the space time continuum. Is Q here? No, that was a long time ago. Don't revert to things that colored the television in the Roswell motel. A better place now. Hermione skirt and bright pink. I'm in love with my clothes. Oh dear. Laughter and Pinatas. You know what I mean. They're drugs. That and the shadow that follows me to Shakespeare. Remember, I'm in love with Shakespeare too. I believe there is magic in these numbers (2)(1)(3) or (1)(2)(3) or (2)(3)(1) or (1)(3)(2) or (3)(2)(1) or (3)(1)(2). Permutations.
If you have the ill luck of knowing me, this might make sense. Otherwise, just go along for the ride.

So here are two true statements: 1) I love Crime and Punishment 2) I adore Jonathan Rhys-Meyers
How can those statements possibly be related you wonder. Easy... the movie "Match Point" that came out on Friday in the United States. I thought the film was brilliant and I was enjoying every minute of it. Jonathan is perfect for the Raskolnikov-like role. To say more would be to spoil all the fun, but I think it bloody good entertainment.
And now my version of Crime and Punishment in eight pages (Please, Please don't read if you haven't read the book): ( C&P: Fairy Tale Style )

So I wrote this, spent nearly two weeks editing it and now I've decided that since I've run out of time (it's required date of completion is tomorrow) I might as well let all of you see it. Yes, it's a short story.

So who's in Slytherin? That's right, I am. People kept asking me if I was Hermione Granger. I wanted to hex them. Too bad I don't actually know how to use a wand. Although I suppose I could have stabbed their eyes out. Okay...

So today I got my hair hacked off. It was grand. Now I look a bit like my icon, only it's a little longer than Johnny's and a bit less wavy. I also got to see Tatiana and Roman (2005 World Ice Dance Champions) at an Ice Theatre of New York production at Chelsea Piers. They did both their free and original dances. More on that later when I have energy to edit this and add mental pictures.

My world has flipped upside down:
1. I just proctored a college library science midterm posing as a Pratt Institute graduate student.
2. We're having a family reunion in NYC. So not planned.

I sit in an apartment in Manhattan and thank the gods for people who don't lock their wireless networks. I have a variety to chose from! Yes, I'm a horrible person... but if you just let it sit there, I might as well use it.
Highlights:
1. Cab company number was busy. Security drove us across Poughkeepsie at breakneck speed. We missed the 4:40 AM train and had to resign ourselves to taking the 5:15. Whatever.
2. I had breakfast and then slept until 1:00. I then attended the most amazing lecture on Henry V. The lecture was at the seniors center, but it was awesome nonetheless. He's far more engaging than half the professors I've encountered.
3. Yay for not being cut off from the internet!
